Under Dr Velamuri’s leadership, Mahindra University launched Mahindra University’s School of Management in the 2021 academic session. The School of Management has begun undergraduate programs with post-graduate and research programs(FPM at MUSOM). Ramakrishna (Rama) Velamuri is currently a Professor and Dean of the School of Management, Mahindra University. Dr Velamuri is a seasoned academician with over three and a half decades of experience in holding key academic, administrative and industry positions.
Professional Career
Since 2007, he has been associated with the China Europe International Business School(CEIBS), Shanghai, which is ranked #7 globally for the full-time MBA and #2 for the Global EMBA in the Financial Times rankings. At CEIBS, Dr Velamuri was the Chengwei Ventures Professor of Entrepreneurship and Chair of the Strategy & Entrepreneurship Department. In addition, he has held several leadership positions such as the Chair of the CEIBS Research Committee, Academic Director of the CEIBS Global EMBA, etc.
From 2003 to 2007, Prof. Velamuri worked with IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain and was the Academic Director of IESE’s Global MBA Program. He has also been a Visiting Professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Bocconi University, the Indian School of Business, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, etc.
From 1985 to 1991, Dr Velamuri held senior managerial positions with Grupo Tudor, Madrid, one of Europe’s largest lead-acid battery manufacturers and led the subsidiary in Bristol, UK, participated in the post-acquisition integration of a mid-sized company in Germany, participated in the acquisition negotiation teams in France & England, and in the reorganization of the sales and distribution of the automotive battery business in Spain. In 1990, he was appointed the General Manager of a newly created division that was responsible for group subsidiaries in the UK, France, Holland, and Italy.
Research Career
Professor Velamuri’s primary expertise is Entrepreneurship. His research focuses on entrepreneurial opportunity recognition and evaluation, entrepreneurial resource mobilization, business model innovation, firm growth, entrepreneurial teams, and business ethics including stakeholder theory and ethical decision making. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed academic journals and his research is highly cited. Professor Velamuri has written several award-winning business cases in addition to making business presentations in academic and industrial settings.
Academics Career
Dr Velamuri has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Madras and an MBA from IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Barcelona, Spain. His PhD in Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics and Strategy was awarded to him by the Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia. Dr Velamuri’s education across three continents, exposure to multiple cultures and linguistic ability will help set the path for truly global programs at Mahindra University’s School of Management.
