Ph.D. at IIM Kozhikode | Programme Overview (2023)

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), established in 1996, is a top ranking, AMBA and EQIUS accredited business school.

The school offers the following programmes –

About the Program –

The Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM) at the IIM Kozhikode started in 2007, is a full-time doctoral programme. 
The FPM offers students opportunities for advanced studies and research in different specializations related to Management Science. 

The Programme alum works in prestigious organizations in teaching and research in management studies, government, industry, and think tanks. 

The Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM) at IIM Kozhikode is offered in the following specializations:

1. Finance, Accounting and Control
2. Humanities and Liberal Arts in Management
3. Information Systems
4. Marketing Management
5. Organizational Behaviour & Human Resources
6. Quantitative Methods & Operations Management
7. Strategic Management.
8. Economics

On completing the Programme, a student is awarded the Ph.D. degree in their area of specialization.

Eligibility-

An applicant of the Doctoral Programme is required to have one of the following qualifications as basic eligibility:

1. Master’s Degree or Post Graduate Diploma (2-year) with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.
2. Professional qualifications of CA, ICWA and CS with Bachelor’s Degree with at least 60% marks or equivalent in Bachelor’s Degree.
3. B Tech/4-year Degree with 6.5 CGPA or equivalent*

(* for c above additional minimum 3 years relevant experience is required for applying to Marketing Management Area)

Those appearing for the final exams can also apply; however, their final selection will be subject to successful completion of the requirement by June 30, 2023. Their admission will be provisional till they produce the required certificates of qualification before December 2023.

All relevant qualifications mentioned above must be granted by appropriate bodies in India or abroad and recognized as equivalent by the relevant Government of India authorities.

Qualifying Examination –

Except for those opting for IIMB Test, a candidate applying for Doctoral Programme of IIMK should have a valid test score not older than three years as on the closing date of submission in any of the following tests depending on the area of specialization:

** The candidates with UGC-NET and applying for the Economics area need to go through a written test by IIMK which will be conducted along with the interview.

*** Candidates applying for the QMOM area must have Mathematics/Statistics/Operations Research as a course in the undergraduate/post graduate or the qualifying degree.

Exemptions-

Candidates holding PGDM (full-time 2-year program)/ MBA Degree from any of the IIMs or holding an Executive PGDM/MBA Degree from IIM Kozhikode, with an overall CGPA of 2.67/4.33 or equivalent to ‘B-’ grade, are exempted from taking qualifying tests as mentioned above.

(S)he has to pay the application fee, and meet the application deadline.

After submission of the application forms, the selection procedure followed for such a candidate will be identical to that of all other candidates.

Admission Process –

Research Proposal:
The candidate should submit a research proposal not exceeding 2000 words and must include a title, keywords, motivation of the research, description of the research problem and the questions, a preliminary review of relevant literature, possible research approaches, and references

Selection: 
Candidates will be shortlisted on the recommendation of respective areas based on their academic performance, Qualifying examination scores and Research Proposal. Such candidates will be invited for a Personal Interview.
