Types of research paper

A research paper is an academic writing that on a specific topic of our interest that is outlined to provide relevant proof or data, to support a thesis depending upon our examination, evaluation, and interpretation of the topic and data.

 A research paper can vary extensively, but essentially there are some basic types of research paper explained below:

1. Descriptive Paper:

Before describing what descriptive paper is, kindly go through these questions.

What have you touched?

What do you feel, sense or smell?

All of the above questions requires an answer whether you are describing a place or your thinking, while your description should be so elaborative and effective that the reader should have a sense of what you are observing in your research field.

This type of research paper asks you to relax and pen down all your emotions and transfer it to the reader with ingenious words. Showcasing all your research observations in the most inventive way, this paper may not include thesis, conclusion or analysis of your research.

Always pinpoint intricate details about your analysis to the readers to showcase your skills with originality and ingenuity.

One of the important aspects of descriptive paper is your language should appeal to the reader, this paper demands an elaborative form of your ideal picture about the topic you are researching .

2. Persuasive/Argumentative Research paper:

Whether its an interview or an exam paper etc., we always provide an argument of why we are best at the situation with concrete evidence or whether we agree /disagree.

 So, Argumentative/Persuasive paper requires rational thinking and logic to persuade the reader about the research topic of your interest and its evaluation positioning and any sound argument is supported with substantial evidence.

The sole purpose of both the papers is to convince the reader that author has a valid point made on concrete evidence and observations, to look at the opposite side, and to organize the influential factors in a precise, rationally supported pattern.

As with all research papers, the author should know the purpose of paper through following the writing process with substantial research and evidence so that she can include that minute and specific convincing evidence to make an argument.

 Any claim you make must be supported by substantial evidence, which requires in-depth, detailed research.

 So, if you want to persuade your reader to accept your point of view, think like you are reader. Do your research, and follow all the general research paper guidelines, as well as the ones specific to argumentative writing.

3. Compare/contrast paper:

Author use “Compare” for the situations that are identical while when in contrast, the situations are diverse.

Your paper might be to compare or to contrast or to compare and contrast. For example,   Been offered a couple of jobs? You unquestionably would want to compare and contrast the wages for each, working hours, driving distance and advancement possibilities before settling which to accept.

The purpose of the paper is to analyse difference/similarities between two contexts or subjects with solid argument and points differentiating both with observation, and findings.

The disadvantage is that if a lot of information is presented, the reader may not be able to remember the specifics without having to return to each section. Comparing and contrasting by categories point by point is easier for immediate comparing and contrasting. On the other hand, a summary of all the information about each option may not be easy to find. Comparing and contrasting is necessary for a variety of writing situations. Each step and stage of the writing process needs to be followed.

Even though writing a detailed comparing-and-contrasting paper may not be as easy, the process is the same and can be made easier by creating a visual representation, showing the similarities and variances and developing a clear thesis.

4. Cause and Effects research paper:

The Cause and effect paper is used to showcase the outcome or result of situations.

The author should note down the point that every effect has a cause behind it and vice-versa. Your findings and result are the ultimate effects of your research topic i.e the cause you are showcasing with analyzation of key metrics and data.

This is similar to predicting as what will happen and why with logical reasoning and findings. However, in order to write cause and effects paper, the situations might be complex with multiple iterations of findings and data metrics, so be sure to revisit all major points and overall context of your research paper, thus tieing up all points in a logical flow for easy understanding.

Too many points may confuse your reader so, an effective organization is a necessity. So, you will need a thesis, body paragraphs, each having a clear topic sentence that gives one of the reasons or causes, and effective transition between each cause or effect.

It is sometimes identified as the most important kind of paper, as it helps in analytical thinking being able to produce the end result.
