In conversation with Prof. P.K. Singh Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh is engaged for more than three decades in academics in the field of post-graduate teaching in management, training, research, consulting, and academic administration. He has a unique blend of experience having served in academics in all types of institutions – state university (Ujjain and Kanpur), central university (IGNOU, New Delhi), national institute (NITIE, Mumbai), and Indian institute (IIM Indore). He operates in the field of Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management, Indian Ethos, and Managerial Values and Skills. Before a career in academics, he worked with Bank of India as Industrial Relations Officer.
He is a Ph.D. in Management from Vikram University Ujjain, Post-Graduate in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations from Xavier Institute of Social Service Ranchi, and M.A. in Economics from Ranchi University. He graduated with Economics as a major with Mathematics and English literature. He qualified NET of UGC in 1984, the very year in which JRF was introduced by UGC. He has attended a summer school certificate programme in research methodology at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Dr. Singh has published numerous research papers, two books, one booklet in the field of managing people. He has guided research at the Ph.D. level. He has presented about 75 research papers in national and international seminars in India and abroad. He is on the editorial board of reputed journals. He has written post-graduate level course material in management suitable for distance education mode and has prepared audio on interviewing skills. For faculty development, he has conducted various sessions and has prepared video material sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
He has trained more than 15,000 executive participants from almost all walks of professional activities across all levels of hierarchy. He has provided consultancy to various organizations of the public as well as the private sector. He has been invited speaker on more than 100 occasions including those organized by reputed academic institutions, CII, PHDCC, ISTD, LIC Roundtable, various Management Associations, Rotary Club, Lions’ Club, and various professional bodies. His discussions have been broadcasted on national channels on television. Dr. Singh has been a member of various academic and government bodies. Among various responsibilities in the field of academic administration, he has also worked as Director-in-charge of IIM Indore and Chairperson of Academic Committee of IIM Sambalpur. As Nodal Officer of IIM Sambalpur, he played the sheet anchor role in mentoring the institute.
Dr. Singh enjoys certain hobbies. He enjoys traveling. In cricket-playing, he has represented teams as all-rounder up to Railway’s divisional level team, Bank of India’s zonal level team, and the team of IIM Indore in CII tournament. He enjoys music, astronomy, poetry, and quotations. His one of the favorite quotes is: ‘We are always preparing to live but never living’.
