Ph.D. at IIM Bangalore | Programme Overview (2023)

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore was established in 1973 and is now incorporated and recognized as an ‘institution of national importance’ by an Act of Parliament titled the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017.

The school offers the following programs –

1. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.),
2. The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP),
3. The Post Graduate Programme in Management – Business Analytics (PGP-BA),
4. The Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), and
5. The Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM).

IIM Bangalore is EQUIS Accreditation since 2010.

IIMB research centres includes:

1. The Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management (CCMRM),
2. Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship (CCGC),
3. Centre for Management Communication (CenComm),
4. Centre for Public Policy (CPP),

About the Program –

The Doctoral Programme at IIM Bangalore started in 1976, is a FIVE YEAR full-time doctoral programme. 

The Ph.D. program offers students opportunities for advanced studies and research in different specializations related to Management.
The Programme alum works in prestigious organizations in teaching and research in management studies, government, industry, and think tanks. 
The program draws its strength from its close proximity to some of the leading corporate houses in the country, ranging from information technology to consumer product companies, giving us the added advantage of integrating classroom knowledge with practical experience.

The Doctoral Programme in Management includes the following ten (10) specializations:

1. Decision Sciences,
2. Economics & Social Sciences,
3. Entrepreneurship,
4. Finance & Accounting,
5. Information Systems,
6. Marketing,
7. Organizational Behaviour & Human Resources Management,
8. Production & Operations Management,
9. Public Policy

On completing the Programme, a student is awarded the Ph.D. degree in their area of specialization.

 

Eligibility-

An applicant of the Doctoral Programme is required to have:

A Master’s Degree (obtained after completing bachelor’s degree) or a 5 year Integrated
Master’s Degree (obtained after completing higher secondary schooling in 10+2 pattern) in
any discipline

Post Graduate Diploma (2 years) with at least 55 percent marks in the bachelor’s as well in the master’s degrees/PG Diploma (50 percent marks for SC, ST and PwD categories).

Professional qualification – CA, ICWA, CS (with at least 50*percent marks) with B.com /
Degree (*45 percent marks for SC, ST and PwD categories).
(OR)
A 4 year / 8 semesters Bachelor’s degree with at least 6.5* CGPA or equivalent marks (*6.0
CGPA for SC, ST and PwD categories).

A final-year student appearing for the Bachelor’s degree examination in Engineering or Master’s degree examination in any discipline can also apply.

The deadline for submission of marks sheet and the Certificate is December 31, 2023.

Please note that those candidates who have applied on the basis of their master’s degree will have to meet the 55% marks stipulation, and those who have applied on the basis of their bachelor’s degree will have to meet the 65% marks stipulation, or as applicable in the case of candidates from various social categories. Non-fulfilment of these conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

Candidates may opt for only one of these tests, namely, CAT, GMAT, GATE GRE, JRF (NET) or IIMB Test, to apply for Ph.D.
Please note that candidates can apply to a maximum of two areas of specialization

Except for those opting for IIMB Test, all other candidates should mandatorily provide the test score, which should be valid as on December 12, 2022, while submitting the application.

IIMB Test will be conducted ONLINE by IIMB twice, i.e., on October 16, 2022 and December 18, 2022.
If any applicant is appearing twice, the best of the two scores (IIMB Test) will be considered for further processing.

The deadline for submission of fully completed applications is December 12, 2022 (5:00 p.m. IST).
