Ph.D. at IIM Lucknow | Programme Overview (2023)

The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L), established in 1984, and it was established as the fourth Indian Institute of Management (IIM) by the Government of India.

The school offers the following programmes –

1. Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP),
2. Post Graduate Programme in Agri Business Management (PGP- ABM),
3. Post Graduate Programme in Sustainable Management (PGP-SM),
4. Post Graduate Programme in Management for Working Executives (PGPWE (WMP),
5. International Programme in Management for Executives (IPMX),
6. Fellow Program in Management (FPM), and Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM).

IIM Lucknow is AACSB, and EQIUS Accredited.

About the Program –

The Doctoral Programme at IIM Calcutta started in 2000-01, is a full-time doctoral programme. 

The FPM offers students opportunities for advanced studies and research in different specializations related to Management Science. 

The Programme alum works in prestigious organizations in teaching and research in management studies, government, industry, and think tanks. 

The FPM at IIM Lucknow (Doctoral Programme in Management) is offered in the following specializations:

1. Agribusiness Management
2. Business Environment (Economics)
3. Decision Sciences
4. Finance & Accounting
5. Human Resource Management
6. Information Technology & Systems
7. Marketing
8. Operations Management
9. Strategic Management

On completing the Programme, a student is awarded the Ph.D. degree in their area of specialization.

Eligibility-

An applicant of the Doctoral Programme is required to have:
First Class Master’s or Post graduate diploma (2 years) in any discipline and a three-year Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks in the aggregate;
CA with minimum 50% marks or CS/CMA with minimum 55% marks, with B.com degree;
Bachelors in Engineering /4 year’s degree with 6.5 CGPA or equivalent.

Non-engineering candidates who have undergone 10+2+5 years will be considered eligible to apply for the Doctoral Programme.
CMA (USA) candidates are also eligible to apply for the Doctoral Programme.

In addition, applicant must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in either the Secondary or the Higher Secondary Examination of a Board (or equivalent).

A final-year student appearing for the Bachelor’s degree examination in Engineering or Master’s degree examination in any discipline can also apply.
Such a candidate, if selected, will be provisionally admitted provided (s) he completes all requirements for obtaining the degree before 30th June 2023.
 
Admission of the candidate will remain provisional until (s) he produces mark sheets proving that (s) he satisfies the eligibility criteria. The deadline for submitting the final year degree mark sheets is 31st December 2023.

Qualifying Exam –

An applicant can apply to at most two areas of specialization. (S)he needs to have taken the Common Admission Test (CAT) in 2022 OR, depending on chosen specialization(s), alternative test(s) in lieu of the CAT as specified in the following table. The test score(s) should be valid on January 31st, 2023.

“Validity of Score (other than CAT), Two years from the date of test and should be valid on the deadline of submission of the application form”.

Exemptions-

An MBA/PGDM (two years full time) holder of any of the IIM’s with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00/9.00 and above (or equivalent) does not need to take any Admission Test. (S)he can apply directly using the DP Online Application Process.

(S)he has to pay the application fee, and meet the application deadline.

After submission of the application forms, the selection procedure followed for such a candidate will be identical to that of all other candidates.

14	Contingency Grant/ Financial Support	Each student can avail the student development grants of up to Rs. 65,000 for the first year of study, and of up to Rs. 25,000 per year for subsequent years. The stipend and grants are given for four years, and can be extended for up to one more year on demonstration of satisfactory progress in dissertation work. Additional financial support is available in the form of extra funds of up to Rs.50,000 for field research (if needed).
