About the IME Department, IIT Kanpur
 The Department of Industrial & Management Engineering (IME) at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), INDIA was established with the aim of synergizing technology with management in a comprehensive manner so that the knowledge gained may be used for the benefit of the society at large.  The journey started in 1988 with the PhD and M.Tech programmes, and in 2001 the department introduced the MBA programme. The focus of the department is to develop techniques and skill sets relevant to students with diverse backgrounds, and who may wish to subsequently pursue a career in academics or in different technical and managerial positions in Industrial & Management Engineering related industries.

Admission process
- Shortlisting of the applicants
| The shortlisting of applicants for the written test will be based on academic records as well as work experience and the total number of approved seats as well as the number of applicants in each category. Only eligible and completed applications will be considered for short-listing. A committee in charge of Ph.D. admission will prepare the shortlists. A separate shortlist for each category will be prepared.Â
Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee to short-list for the written test. Only suitable applicants (to be judged by the Ph.D. admission committee) will be called for the written test.
